A little about me

HI! My name is Katrina Race. I am a horse owner, trainer, lesson instructor, bodywork specialist, and lover. My parents purchased me my first horse when I was two years old, and I've never been the same since.

I am located just north of Houston, TX and travel around the greater Houston area. I currently teach and train out of Callegari Equestrian Center in Cypress, but I travel all over for massage and PEMF services.

I ride, train, and coach both English and Western disciplines and do bodywork on all equine breeds.

My training and coaching styles both include a participation heavy component from both horse and rider.

I truly believe there is a better way to train horses other than only forcing them to comply with every single thing that is demanded of them. I believe in a more natural approach that involves going at the pace set by the horse, listening and respecting their body language, discomforts, and acknowledging that these creatures deserve more than heavy hands and fearful training techniques. I do NOT start colts. For more on my ideals and methods, see the Training and Tune ups tab above.

I have a true love for coaching youth riders who are as passionate as I was when I was their age, and thoroughly enjoy adult lessons as well.

I currently have limited availability for both lessons and training/tune ups, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you are interested. For riding lesson inquiries, please go to www.callegarihorses.com.

Information about Magnawave: PEMF

*Offered for humans, small animals, equine, and livestock*Not quite sure if PEMF is right for you or your animal? Here’s some great information regarding the positive effects PEMF Therapy offers.
“MagnaWave is used in nearly every competitive equestrian discipline for equine performance enhancement, health maintenance, and recovery. PEMF has beneficial effects in alleviating equine tendon and ligament injuries, sore backs, sore stifles, chronic hock soreness, sore shoulders, non-union fractures, laminitis, founder, stone bruises, and non-healing wounds. PEMF encourages the body to recovery naturally.”
“High powered PEMF devices for horses generate results at an accelerated rate and can be easily adjusted for optimal level of penetration. PEMF promotes cellular exercise, which increases circulation, blood oxygenation, and helps the body recovery naturally, while reducing inflammation, and, relieving pain. Using MagnaWave sends a pulsating charge through tissues to provide energy to large focal areas like joints and major muscle groups. Penetration of the charge can be up to 16 to 18 inches into the equine body”
Q: Why/how would PEMF benefit myself or my horse before OR after a race? What about in between competition seasons? A:
⭐️Works on the Cellular Level: Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields can penetrate every cell, tissue, organ, and bone with gentle electromagnetic pulses which stimulate and rejuvenate the cells.
⭐️Bone Mending: Improved quality of calcium is produced in one-third of the standard time. PEMF is said to accelerate repair of both bone and soft tissue. Many studies have used PEMF to treat fractures and arthritis.
⭐️Better Sleep Quality: The use of PEMF technology encourages muscles to relax which results in a deeper, more natural sleep.
⭐️Improved Energy: Improved circulation, better sleep, natural wellness, and reduced inflammation which result in reduced pain, and all translate to increased energy.
⭐️Stimulating Cell Metabolism: When a cell creates viable energy, it can use that energy to heal problem areas and function at higher rates. The body can repair cells and recover which can lead to improved overall health without side effects.
⭐️Pain Reduction: A majority of pain is caused by inflammation. PEMF usage promotes suppression of inflammatory responses at the cell membrane to alleviate pain and increase range of motion. The best part is that in some cases, relief can begin in minutes.
⭐️Injury Recovery and Wound Repair: PEMF enhances the oxygenation of the blood flow through the body, and this helps the body with health and wellness. On average the healing process is increased by about a third of the time it would normally take without the use of PEMF.”

About Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy is a modality of healing that uses a low level wavelength and intensity laser to penetrate the cell, causing a chemical reaction within the cell of increased ATP; which is the energy cells use in order to function. The increase of energy allows healing to take place where it was previously halted or damaged. Old scars, chronic pain like arthritis, migraines, joint damage, muscle damage, etc, minor cuts and bruises, and other forms of damage within the cells are given the opportunity to heal where they struggled to previously. Additionally, circulation to the area is improved which lowers vasoconstriction related pain and discomfort. Cold laser therapy is a safe and proven method for many different kinds of healing. Safe for humans, small animals, equine, and livestock.

Why does my horse need massage?

What exactly is massage? Great question. Massage is many different forms of “rubbing” which cause increased circulation and manual/passive release of muscles and connective tissue. Most massages center around Swedish massage, an ancient form of massage used for generations. A Swedish massage revolves around 3 key points: Effleurage,  Petrissage , and Tapotment.  Simply put: Soothe the area, remove impurities and blockages, and improve circulation and functional ability. All creatures feel muscle discomfort. We sometimes forget horses are athletes. It’s not unheard of for professional athletes like volleyball players, basketball players, football players, and even tennis players to receive regular sports massage, on a regular basis. The reason for this is because they are using their bodies in ways that are not naturally designed. We do the same thing with horses, we ride them and compete on them, whether it be turning a barrel, performing a Piaf, or jumping an oxer. Horses are athletes. Aside from competitive Horses, people with every day lives and jobs, like desk jobs, still go get massages. Why? Because being alive means to have stressors. A new lesson student, a different grain, or a move to another barn. Horses feel stress and anxiety in the same ways people do. Stress = tight muscles and fibers. Tight muscles cause misalignment, where we find our horses need a chiropractor. Avoiding regular Bodywork means having a uncomfortable horse. With all they do for us, it’s the least we can do for them.

Qualifications

My Professional Development

My career is my calling. I‘ve been working as a professional Equine Massage Therapist since October 2019 and I’ve never been more in love with my work. I have been riding horses since I was just 2 years old, riding in training and lesson programs from the age of 5. I Have ridden English, western, low level dressage, cross country, pleasuring riding, and various other styles of riding. Horses have always been my safe place. In school, I had a soft spot for biology, anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, and other science based courses. I took 2 years of biology based courses in college and enjoyed every moment of it. Being able to combine biology based study (massage) and horses, I have found something that can be used to make a difference to what matters to me and fellow horse people. I have a true passion for massage and holistic medicine and I strive to share my knowledge with anyone who’s interested, and learn more every opportunity I get. I’m currently working on furthering my education through additional Equine massage modalities. Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions you may have. You do not have to be a client! I’m happy to help when and where I can.
